Hello Friends!

We are Sam & Alli (or Sally, just like the sanga), sisters and co-owners of Tyler’s Milkbar. We thought we’d let you know a little bit about us and why we do what we do!

First, comes LOVE!
We genuinely love what we do - we’ve both worked in hospitality & retail businesses since we were fourteen and have worked in three different jobs together - it’s something that just magically happened. There is 7.5 years between us and acorss all of our roles we’ve learned that sh*t just works when we do it side by side. Do we fight? Barely: the key is good sleep and open communication.

Second comes BELONGING. We landed back in Victoria eleven years ago and our jobs along the way have provided us with grounding and a sense of belonging in different communities. We count ourselves lucky to have had the oppurtunity to work, play footy, live and ear in the Preston/Rezza area over the past 5+ years and just love every little inch of it. We wanted to create a space that could extend that sense of belonging to others, young and old - a place to meet, eat and treat yourself… to chat, to be alone, to have some timeout and some fun and laughter with our team. What we value the most (so many warm fuzzy feelings) is the connections that we and other have formed in the space since we opend in July 2021.

Third comes FUN. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and we do things on the fly (those 3am milkshake hunt set ups aren’t planned too far ahead) We are definitely 110% silly and we don’t mind not hiding that from you all - it’s who we are. We’re in the kitchen annoying eachother by 5am each day and we are so grateful for that special time together.

Fourth comes FOOD. Yep, just about every sweet treat is baked in-house and yes, we go about making everything on our menu from scratch. We are not trained chefs - we just love, love simple, heart-warming food prepared with quality, local ingredients from makers that we admire with a big dollop of love to finish. We promise to never over-complicate things, that’s not our vibe - simple, uncomplicated and delish is what we believe we do well.
Our food will always br made-to-order that’s how we keep things fresh and delicious and minimise waste. So if you’re in a rush, call ahead/order online and we’ll have it ready on your arrival. We believe in keeping dollars local - sourcing ingredients and retail items from as close-to-home as we can.

Fifth comes PEOPLE. Our team, specifically.
We believe in meaningful, ethical, employee-first employment. No overtime, proper breaks, balance, proper meals on shift, training and upskilling, proper pay and mental-health as a priority. This extends to ourselves - we are trying to do better at looking after ourselves because we can’t look after our crew if we aren’t in good form. We have a team made up of 15 incredible humans including our Mumma (who literally does a little bit of everything - you’ll find her rocking the backyard on Saturday’s). In Brissy, you’ll find Dad - providing fly-in ‘dish technician’ support and on-the-phone business guidance!

What’s to come? More space. More fun. More food. More friends. More connections. More rest. More play. More people in our team!
We hope to be able to extend our hours to you soon… that moment will come when the team size and balance is at the perfect point, so that we can all give you the best of ourselves every moment that the doors are open.

Thank you for the oodles of love, support and understanding you have show us so far - we really do feel like you have wrapped your arms around us and jumped aboard this wild train of shenanigans with us and WE LOVE IT SO MUCH!
